The crankshaft - proof of quality for automotive suppliers


A crankshaft in piston engines transforms the linear movement of one or more pistons into a rotational movement (or vice versa) by means of connecting rods. Due to the enormous dynamic loads, the quality of the highly stressed and critical geometries must be examined, e.g. in regards to the notch effect and unbalance. Dimensional accury, form, position and surface quality of the pin bearings and main bearings are fundamental. The dimensional stability of the transition radii between the cheek and rod bearings ensure uninterrupted operation, since special forces occur here due to the eccentric construction. Contour and surface quality must be checked.
