Mahr looks back at the strongest sales year in company history, establishment of Mahr GmbH, investments in Germany and abroad

Mahr looks back at the very successful year 2012 – the strongest sales year in company history. With the founding of Mahr GmbH and investments in Germany and abroad, the application specialist for metrology pursues its growth strategy. Mahr is driving its business forward with its "Vision 300" and a new concept for measuring solutions.

In 2012, Mahr reached a turnover of 215 million euros and achieved the best result in the company's history. Revenues also brought an increase in jobs: The number of employees increased to about 1700. "After another record year, the Mahr Group is in a year of consolidation, because due to the global government debt but also the euro crisis, our customers are confused, and particularly in Southern Europe and Germany they are holding back with expansion investments,” says Stephan Gais, director of Mahr.“ In the U.S. and Asia, on the other hand, we continue to grow - though not as strongly as we thought." The framework conditions also reflect the current situation at Mahr. Stephan Gais: "We therefore have changed our expectation – despite the improved outlook for the second half of the year - and expect, in contrast to the previous year, a period of consolidation and stagnation. We have developed over the last few weeks appropriate countermeasures to activate our potential and are now implementing them. "Mahr consistently pursues its growth strategy. The company is reinforcing the trend towards internationalization. Mahr invested, for example, in Asia, USA and South America and is expanding its activities in these dynamic markets.

In Germany, Mahr is strengthening its position even more with a new name. With its current legal form as Mahr GmbH, the company combines its three locations in Germany: Esslingen, Göttingen and Jena since the beginning of 2013. These sites now continue to grow together, use synergies and serve customers more quickly. At the Jena location, Mahr concentrates on the development of optical measuring units. Sales and Product Management for gear technology have been successfully relocated to Goettingen. Mahr also invested in the reconstruction of the customer service centers in Esslingen and Ingolstadt. Mahr places great emphasis on apprenticeships. 1 million euros were invested in a new training center In Goettingen.

Mahr wants to grow in the future as well and has set the "Vision 300" as its goal. "We maintain our medium-term expectations of an annual sales volume of 300 million euros," says CEO Stephan Gais. "We anticipate that we will be back on our path to growth next year by the latest." In the future, the products will be increasingly developed from modular components and the product portfolio will be oriented to the target applications. In addition, the outstanding product and service quality will be further expanded. The process quality will also be secured at the top level.

The metrology company Mahr has developed a new four-level concept for measuring solutions: standard solutions, industry solutions, application solutions and customized solutions. With this comprehensive approach, the application specialist can implement any customer needs for dimensional metrology for manufacturing companies.
