Federal Minister Dr. Ursula von der Leyen visits Mahr, tour of the production and the apprenticeship center

Education and family-friendliness has had great importance at Mahr for years. With her visit to Göttingen on August 8, 2013, Dr. Ursula von der Leyen, Federal Minister for Labour and Social Affairs, praised the commitment of the application specialists for production metrology.

During her visit, Dr. Ursula von der Leyen stressed that companies like Mahr justify the reputation of the site in Germany and that in particular the working middle class in this country works with precision, innovation and reliability. On her tour of the company, the Minister also visited the new apprenticeship center in which Mahr invested 1 million euros. Approximately 50 apprentices are currently there in training. Dr. von der Leyen stressed how important it is to make apprenticeship places available to European applicants as well. Given its international nature, Mahr has already had a Spanish apprentice.

Managing Director Ulrich Kaspar informed Dr. Ursula von der Leyen about the importance of family-friendliness for Mahr. The company thus has its own kindergarten and a nursery on the premises. They offer family-friendly and flexible working hours, special programs for young parents as well as for employees with family care responsibilities. In addition, the high-tech company promotes women in STEM professions.

The Minister learned during her visit how Mahr offensively counters the demographic change: The metrology manufacturer, for instance, cooperates with various schools and colleges. In order to form their own new generation in engineering, Mahr offers together with the University HAWK a combination of study and practice. Through these activities, Mahr has already successfully won professionals as employees.
