Mahr was nominated with the MarSurf TWI 60 in the category “Other Metrology Instrumentation” for the PRISM Awards 2015 of SPIE (International Society for Optics and Photonics) and Photonics Media. This highly regarding prize is also referred to as the “Photonics Oscar”.

The optical measuring unit MarSurf TWI 60 is based on a novel, highly precise, fast and very flexible method to measure aspheres and freeform surfaces.

Modern algorithms enables adaptation to different surface forms without additional expensive accessories such as computer generated holograms (CGH).

Due to its very high resolution of high-frequent errors and extremely short measuring times, the Tilted Wave Interferometer is particularly suited for the quality assurance of modern optics as a measuring system in the production process.

The measuring procedure is based on an idea of the Institute for Technical Optics at the University of Stuttgart. Together with the university partner, laboratory and functional models were created in a BMBF-funded project on the optical technologies of the project carrier VDI Technology Center.

The MarSurf TWI 60 is currently entering the production stage in cooperation with known manufacturers of optical components, especially aspheres and freeforms.

A first version of MarSurf TWI 60 is already in use at the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) in Braunschweig - an accolade in the metrology industry.
