Fast, precise and fully automatic: measuring threads with MarSurf easyContour

Fully automated measuring sequences are very popular with users. With the MarSurf contour measuring devices and the software's measuring wizard, Mahr offers fully automated measurement of thread parameters: users who want to take a closer look at individual profiles and their thread specifics are provided with comprehensive data on the straightness and angle of the flanks as well as the pitch and radii in the thread root and thread tips at this measuring station. A fully automatic process is also available for evaluating the upper and lower profile. Inside, outside and flank diameters are evaluated in the blink of an eye.
In terms of dimensions, the MarSurf devices in the CD series impress with a measuring range of ± 35 mm vertically and 140 or 280 mm horizontally. This standard measuring station therefore meets the requirements of common internal and external threads.
With the "Thread Evaluation" option, the contour measuring stations of the MarSurf product group offer precise and versatile measurements without programming effort for almost all thread types:
- Internal and external threads
- Metric threads
- Trapezoidal threads
- Cylindrical threads
- Inch threads
- Taper threads
- Whitworth threads
- Customized threads
Thread evaluation parameters
The measured thread profiles can be evaluated using the defined parameters, tolerances and measuring methods. The entries are logged and saved. This means they are available at any time for recurring measurements.

Fully automatic thread analysis
The thread analysis is started after the profile has been recorded using a Quick&Easy measuring program. All you need to do is press the corresponding function key or a script after the measurement. All selected parameters are then evaluated for the defined thread range.
The area to be analyzed can be defined simply by clicking on the first and last thread flank. For individually designed thread forms, it is possible to adjust the flank areas as required. This method offers a flexible way to define the thread area precisely and quickly.
Logging the thread evaluation
After entering the data or loading the appropriate parameter files into the program, the thread appears in the profile on the screen. Two clicks with the mouse are then sufficient for the thread area to be evaluated and all selected thread parameters in this area are automatically analyzed. Based on the selected settings, the system automatically creates report pages with individual and statistical results. Deviations from the tolerances are highlighted in red.
The thread parameters for round threads are determined in a similar way to metric threads. Only the appropriate entries for the round thread need to be entered in the program menu.

A six-start trapezoidal thread with a large pitch and an outer diameter of only 10 mm places special demands on precise measurement. In order to obtain reliable results, a conical probe tip is used in such cases. This enables reliable data to be obtained despite the restricted geometry.
Thread and contour evaluation with MarSurf easyContour and thread option
The standard MarSurf easyContour software and the thread option can be used to easily measure and evaluate a wide variety of thread types. A separate program is created for each thread using the teach-in method. This method enables an individual evaluation in which other dimensional data can be taken into account in addition to thread parameters – for example, if other contour sections are relevant in addition to the thread areas.
With the MarSurf LD140 and LD280 measuring stations, roughness and thread contour can be recorded simultaneously in a single measuring pass. The measurement is carried out precisely with a diamond probe tip (47° cone angle). The vertical measuring range is ±13 mm, horizontally 140 mm or 280 mm are available depending on the model.
The "Thread Evaluation" option can be easily retrofitted – for all MarSurf contour measuring devices from version 6.0.Find out more now and get to know the entire range of measuring machines from Mahr!
